In 68-69 I was a Navy LT on Army Advisory Team 86 in Long An Province.
There was a Seabee det there with whom I had a lot of fun and from whom I
got a lot of support: great company, best food, and kept my old jeep
running. They seemed to ignore the war and just loved to build things for
the peasants, who really liked them. I'd warn them, but they would just say
that they can't build and carry weapons at the same time. I hear that in
Iraq Seabees are being used to drive in convoys. Stupid use of a wonderful
bunch, but then it is stupid war.

LARGEST ASPHALT PROJECT

Probably the lasgest paving project of WWII was the Effort at Tinian. Six
large B-29 airstrips and miles of taxiways and hardstands.
