I served in USNMCB40 from 72-76. Three deployments....Rota, Okinawa and
Rosey Roads. I was doing a homeport when Davisville/Quonset Point closed
and they relocated 40 to Port Hueneme. The other Davisville battalions went
to Gulfport. This happened in early 74. I had done boot camp in San Diego
and Builder A school in Port Hueneme. Though I was a Builder, I worked in
the armory for most of my time with 40. I did the deal with all of the
weapons, taught cla** and ran the rifle and pistol ranges. When we were
in Okinawa, I came within 4 points of breaking the range record for .45 cal
pistol at Camp Hansen. (USMC)That was a very proud moment.

While at Okinawa, we had a very good softball team. At Kadena AFB, they
had an annual softball tournament , sponsored by YASAK (youth activities
services at Kadena). There were about 40 teams involved for a double
elimination tournament. I caught for NMCB 40's team. We swept the whole
thing and basically won the champioship of the island. We were the
proverbial dark horse. What a feeling!!! The command was really proud. So,
if Jimmy Medina, Howie Culver, Kennie Mellon, Jeff Bradley, Doug McCampbell
or any of those other hard hitting get dirty type of ball players see
this.....feel free to write. They are some of the best memories of my life.

I hope this email finds an old friend, brings a smile to someones face
or stirs up an old memory of a time when we were younger. I wish my best to
all fellow Seabees......Frank
